PinoyMD Forums : Advice for Incoming 1st yr MED

Cropped from pinoyMD forum Our Lady of Fatima (Click to read)

Dalawag Linggo nalang at magiging sobrang busy na talaga ulit ako. Sabi ko nga sa mga previous blogs ko about MedLife na by this time more serious na ko. Sa dami ng nabasa ko sa mga forums about being a med student halos mabaliw ako sa mga nababasa ko.

Think Positive:Walang Aayaw

The Power of the Positive Inner Voice (Re-blog)

Every year, many of my students start a new semester with the aim of changing anything that will make them more successful with their upcoming coursework. If there is one thing that you can change in the very next instant that will make the greatest difference in your performance, it can be that “inner voice” that tells you, “you are not good enough” or “this is a hard subject that I can’t do well in” or “I am not going be able to get all of this work done”.

It seems to be much easier to have an inner voice that is negative rather than positive. Many people are quick to employ the negative rather than the positive because the negative seems to be more believable. Most people are taught that a positive inner voice is the same as “patting your back” for non-achievement but the truth is that a positive inner voice is more about self-confidence than false self-aggrandizement. It is the confidence that one has to master in order to keep moving in a positive direction with any long-term goal. One has to believe that you will reach your goal in a series of small steps toward it on a daily basis.

Since you have total control over your “inner voice”, you can change anything that is negative such as “you are not good enough” to the positive such as “you are as good as anyone else” or make the change from “this is a hard subject that I can’t do well in” to “this may be a challenge but I will have small victories every day and get help the moment I need it”. In short, you can decide in the very next second that you will not listen to the voice that tells you what you “can’t accomplish” and replace that voice with one that tells you “what you have accomplished” and how you will keep accomplishing to meet any challenges head on.

Yes, students will fail exams and quizzes but learning from those failures will help make failing the complete course more remote. If you have never failed at anything in your life, you haven’t actually been tested. People who are untested do not develop the skills to learn from their failures and put them behind so that they can keep moving forward. If you keep spending precious time telling yourself what you “can’t accomplish” because of one set back, then you are likely to fulfill that negative inner voice that seems to be so tempting.

You can control how you react to a grade on a test or quiz. You can look at what you missed and make a careful assessment of what you need to work on so that you don’t keep making the same errors and master the material in a different manner. If you are only focused on the numerical score and not on mastery, you are likely to have difficulty integrating concepts and keeping concepts in your long-term memory (your goal for professional practice).

As I have stated many times on this blog, there has never been a course of study developed by one human being that another human being cannot master. Mastery of your studies does not take any super-human mental feats or membership in high-IQ societies but does take diligent and disciplined study for efficiency. If you use large amounts of time worrying about the rigor or the amount of material that you must master, you lose a great amount of efficiency. In the long run, your learning time for tasks and concepts becomes longer rather than shorter.

For example, as a junior surgical resident, I had to master many surgical procedures. If I had made a list of all of the procedures and cases that needed to be mastered, I would have been overwhelmed at the first case. Instead, I took each case as it came and worked on the fine points after I had mastered the major points. In short, by “divide and conquer”, I was able to master my procedures. I didn’t have the luxury to “think” about non-mastery as I ticked off things as they came under my review.

In residency, there is no person or class that pushes one to undertake daily reading and study. As the hours grow longer, it becomes easy to get behind unless one is vigilant. I set a goal of a minimum of 30 minutes of journal reading and 30 minutes of textbook reading per night with 2 hours on each Saturday/Sunday. I told myself, that I could get my goal accomplished and would get my reading goal accomplished. Like brushing my teeth, I quickly embraced my reading “habit” which meant that I was never behind when review for our yearly in-training exams came around. On same days, I did more because the habit made the task easier and more efficient.

During my residency research years, my reading schedule time tripled during the weekdays and was cut in half on the weekends because my time schedules changed drastically. When I went back to clinical work, it was difficult to stop reading and study because the habit had become so ingrained. I was amazed at the exponential learning that my solid reading schedule had afforded me during those research years. My reading and study efficiency had increased exponentially during this time which was the same exponential reading and study efficiency increase that I had experienced when I started medical school. In short, anything that becomes a habit becomes more ingrained/grooved and more efficient.

One can work on increasing confidence and from that one step, increase efficiency in almost any area of life that needs improvement. This improvement is invariably the result of one good habit leading to improvement in other aspects of one’s life. Just as when one starts a daily work-out program (can start with as little as 10 minutes per day), as the habit grows and becomes honed, other aspects of one’s life such as eating healthy and sleeping better start to improve.

What works for physical fitness can also work for mental fitness too. It always follows that people who are generally physically fit will experience less stress and more efficiency in their mental tasks. There have been plenty of scientific studies that show overall improvement in mood and health with increased physical conditioning. If you add mental conditioning in the form of adherence to a daily positive mantra, you are likely to see improvement in all aspects of your life too.You can start with one small change and keep reinforcing that small positive change on a regular basis. It only takes a change in the very next instant to embrace the positive and confidence that you can keep going which will keep you on the right track.

College: Anak ng Waterproof!

University of Sto. Thomas

Nararamdaman ko na... Kayo nararamdaman niyo na ba? Nagiging sunod sunod na ang pagpaparamdam ng ulan and sadly to say that summer season is almost finished. More days for summer please!

Di kagaya ng Highschool na first to fourth quarter.

The freedom is all yours! sabi nga nila. Lovelife? walang problema, as I have said before the freedom is all yours! pero syempre yung inspiring lovelife naman. Loveife, Studies and Organization. So ano kaya mo ba?

Happy Fiesta: Our Lady Of Peace and Good Voyage

Our Lady Of Peace and Good Voyage (May 19, 2013), 27th Year
Happy Fiesta Barangay f. De Castro!

Ngayong araw na ito ginunita ng mga taga Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Chapel Sunshine Homes Barangay F. De Castro ang kanila Pista ng Birhen ng Antipolo kasabay ng Pista ng Pentecostes.

Little Insight

The Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Chapel iis a fulfillment of the ardent desire to cultivate a God-centered and united community through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is under the jurisdiction of the San Jose Manggagawa Parish.

The first feast day dedicated to Our Lady was on 18 May 1986 (third Sunday of May), with the mass held on a vacant lot near the Phase II triangle of Sunshine Homes.

It has been 27 fruitful years since the first barangay fiesta was held. And with its glorious history, the F. De Castro Catholic community looks at the horizon with great confidence that it can brave the tides and continue fulfilling the mission of bringing God closer to the people with the help of its beloved patroness.

Our Lady Of Peace and Good Voyage

Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage (Spanish: Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje), also known as the Virgin of Antipolo (Tagalog: Birhen ng Antipolo), is a 17th-century Roman Catholic brown wooden statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary venerated by Roman Catholics in the Philippines. The statue depicting the Immaculate Conception of Mary, is enshrined at the Antipolo Cathedral in the city of Antipolo in Rizal province.

The image was originally brought to the country by Governor Juan Niño de Tabora from Mexico via the galleon El Almirante. His safe voyage across the Pacific Ocean was attributed to the image and was given the title of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage. It was substantiated later by six other successful voyages of the Manila-Acapulco Galleons with the image aboard as its patroness. During the 1630s, its several mysterious disappearance from its church in construction and later reappearance on top of a tipolo (breadfruit) tree (artocarpus incisa) led to the relocation of that church to its current location, where the tipolo tree was situated. The pedestal where the image is now enshrined has been traditionally made from the trunk of the tipolo tree.

The town of Antipolo itself was named after the tree for its abundance in the area. The statue is one of the most celebrated images of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Philippines, gaining devotees since the mid-19th century. From May to July each year, the town of Antipolo attracts thousands of devotees from all over country and abroad.

HAPPY FIESTA!!!!!

I'm a MedStudent

OFFICIALLY ENROLLED

Finally, Naka-enrol na din sa wakas. Certified Medicine Student at Our Lady of Fatima University Valenzuela main campus. Na-excite ako bigla. Need to get more serious than before. kung dati puro petiks lang eh ngayon dapat mas seryoso.

Time management ba kamo. Nandyan yung incoming first year college na kapatid ko, sang 3rd High at isang 1st Grade.

I am proud to say that I'm a Medicine Student.

Hala Slow Motion?

Eh paano yung, “we had the right love at the wrong time”? Nangyayari nga ba iyon sa totoong buhay? Eh yung “Guess I always knew inside. I wouldn’t have you for a long time..”

"Mr. Cruz! Frederico! Can you explain the 3rd paragraph!?" <= Professor

Teka ako ba yung tinatawag? parang pangalan ko yung narinig ko.

"Mr. Cruz!" <= Professor

Daylight - Maroon 5 Cover

"Daylight" is a song performed by American pop rock band Maroon 5. The song was released as the third single from their fourth studio album Overexposed (2012). It was written by Adam Levine, Max Martin, Sam Martin and Mason Levy, while production was handled by Levine, Levy and Martin. The song is a soft rock ballad about realizing that one has to move on from an old relationship, but not fully wanting to leave just yet.
The song received a mixed reception from music critics. Some criticized Levine's vocals and called it a filler among the dance-oriented tracks on the album, while others felt a Coldplay inspiration in the end of the chorus. The song has charted in many countries, even reaching number 5 in South Korea before releasing, and after it was released, reaching the top-twenty in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States. It is being performed on the Overexposed Tour.

"Daylight" was announced as the third single taken from the band's fourth studio album Overexposed (2012). It premiered on November 8, 2012 on The Voice. "Daylight" was written by Adam Levine, Max Martin, Sam "SAMM" Martin and Mason "MdL" Levy, while production was handled by Levine, Martin and MdL. Levine has stated numerous times that it is his favorite track on the entire album. It is a soft rock song, and according to Scott Shetler of Pop Crush, "It starts with a pulsing intro featuring a lone electric guitar building up to big choruses and a stadium-sized climax." On "Daylight," Levine is the lover who, for some reason, has to creep away in the morning. It is also seeing as "a tale about saving the last night with a special someone, since the relationship is about to end. "In the daylight/ We'll be on our own/ But tonight I need to hold you so close," he sings. Levine never explains exactly why he has to leave, but it is inferred that trouble has been brewing for some time, based on the line when he asks, "We knew this day would come / We knew it all along / How did it come so fast?." Helen Nowotnik of The Triangle analyzed that "If 'Never Gonna Leave This Bed' and 'Must Get Out' collided into one song, it would be 'Daylight'." The intro is the same as the Backstreet Boys' 2005 single "Just Want You to Know", as noted by Cameron Adams from The Herald Sun. Although some people say, they are not breaking up at all. That Levine is the lover that is leaving to go on his tour. The line that says "We knew this day would come / We knew it all along / How did it come so fast?." explains how short their time is together before he has to leave for months sometimes years to go on tour with his band, Maroon 5.

so here we go here's my cover of Daylight by Maroon 5. Hope you will like my cover :D.
